Fellowship Aims
- To provide the fellow with broad post-doctoral training in the area of Clinical Child Psychology, with specialization in community day treatment and evidence based intervention
- To provide the fellow with a strong working knowledge of day treatment research.
- To enable the fellow to gain experience working with a multidisciplinary treatment team by providing consultative, case management, and group clinical service
- To enable the fellow to gain outpatient child and family therapy skills as well as assessment skills in the area of childhood and adolescent disorders.
Fellowship Timeline
The fellowship will initiate September 1, 2007 and conclude September 1, 2009.
Effort is typically allocated as follows: 70% clinical, 30% research and didactic time.
Research Activity Plan
The fellow will be exposed to various aspects of child clinical research work. This is achieved via participation in the following activities:
- Review of Developmental Psychopathology and School based treatment literature: The fellow will be provided with a series of readings in the areas of specific interest developed in collaboration with the fellow’s research mentor.
- Evidence-Based Intervention/Diagnostic Assessment: The fellow will participate in a monthly journal club to discuss state-of-the-art issues related to evidence based intervention programs and assessment protocols for educational settings
- Manuscript preparation and submission: The fellow will be encouraged to collaborate on manuscript preparation. Individually tailored goals will be established in this area.
- The fellow will be provided the opportunity to participate in monthly research meetings conducted at the Bradley School.
- The fellow will participate in seminars conducted through the postdoctoral training program, covering such topics as professional practice, ethics, and grant writing, and has access to other training opportunities (ex: monthly research meetings, grand rounds).
- The fellow will participate in monthly peer supervision/case conference series
Clinical Activity Plan
In order to ensure that the fellow receives a high level of clinical training, the following activities will be required during the fellowship:
- Treatment services: The fellow will develop expertise in multidisciplinary team leadership over the course of the two years; this will involve team leadership responsibilities for one classroom. These responsibilities include coordinating diagnostic evaluations, developing treatment plans, evaluating treatment, and providing case management for the family. The Fellow will also develop and co-lead several theme based groups over the course of the school year (chosen in conjunction with Fellows’ interest area).
- Clinical assessment: The fellow will complete psychological evaluations for assigned students. This assessment involves cognitive, adaptive, family, and personality assessment across the age range (3-21) served by the school.
- Clinical administration: In accordance with the increasing role of psychologists in clinical administration, goals will include developing leadership ability in this area. This includes participation in weekly team leaders’ meetings and supervisory meetings with milieu staff.
- The fellow will apply for licensure as a Psychologist in the State of Rhode Island.
Supervision and Evaluation
- Goals and objectives for the fellowship are developed collaboratively early on in the first year. Supervision is provided through individual meetings with supervisors weekly, with a primary focus for each supervisor (administration, research, clinical, and assessment).
- At the conclusion and midpoint of the fellowship, the fellow and the supervisors are requested to provide formal evaluations, and evaluations of the program relative to the goals and learning objectives of the fellowship.
