The Clinical Psychology Training Consortium at Alpert Medical School of Brown Univeristy provides training at the predoctoral level, for students interested in careers relevant to clinical science, research, and practice.  The overall training objectives of the program reflect a commitment to the development of psychologists who will provide and apply scientific knowledge to human behavior and who advance clinical science research.  The primary goal of the Consortium is to ensure the development of proficiency across the basic areas of clinical psychology including assessment, therapy, consultation, and research.  A second goal of the program is to provide a beginning concentration in a particular area of psychology.  A central mission of the Training Consortium is to promote diversity of perspective and experience in its pursuit of academic excellence in research, teaching and service.

The Internship offers intensive training in four specific areas (tracks) of clinical psychology: (1) Adult Clinical; (2) Child; (3) Health Psychology/Behavioral Medicine; and (4) Neuropsychology. Click on these links to view details of the rotations available in each track. All interns are admitted to the training program within a track or area of specialization which represents their career focus or interests.

Each intern completes two four-month rotations within his/her area of specialization. Rotation assignments are determined on the basis of the intern's stated interests and training needs. The third rotation for the year is determined by the Training Committee, with input from the intern and his/her advisor, and is in an area outside of that individual’s chosen track.

There are also several clinical-research internship slots. Training of clinical-research focused interns meets all of the goals and objectives of the internship while providing more concentrated clinical-research training in a particular specialty area.  The clinical-research training entails both direct patient care in clinical settings as well as in the context of research protocols. In the Child Track there is training in Child and Adolescent HIV Clinical-Research and also in Child and in Adolescent Comorbid Psychopathology Clinical-Research.  In the Adult Track there is training in Outpatient Psychiatry-MIDAS Project Clinical-Research.  In the Health Psychology/Behavioral Medicine Track there is training in Obesity Clinical-Research.  In the Neuropsychology Track there is training in Dementia Research.

All interns in the Consortium have potential access to all eight training sites. Each site has at least two appropriately trained and experienced psychologists who have input into the governance and policies of the training program. Most training is on an individual basis. Supervision is available in a variety of therapeutic modalities and within a variety of theoretical orientation.

In the last 5 years two out of three interns stayed at Brown to complete their fellowship training.

This internship is accredited by the American Psychological Association.
