Please join me in welcoming our new class of predoctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows. The 2007-2008 intern class started in July and postdoc fellows have been coming in throughout the summer. You can click here to learn more about our current trainees.
We were very fortunate to have a number of distinguished alumni return to Brown last year. It was wonderful to have Dr. David Barlow come to town in May to give the David Barlow Oration 10 years after it was first established. As many of you know, Dr. Barlow was the first Director of the internship. In January Dr. Robert Krueger (97-98 intern) will present Grand Rounds on the topic of "Externalizing spectrum of personality and psychopathology". In January 07 we also had the pleasure of welcoming back Dr. John Norcross (intern class of 1984-1985), who gave Grand Rounds on "Psychotherapy Relationships That Work: Evidence-Based Practices".
In June, we said congratulations to our 2006-2007 graduates. You can read about the 20 interns and 29 postdoctoral fellows who graduated by clicking here. One highlight of the last training year was Research Day in April. Dr. Alan Schatzberg was the keynote speaker, and four of our trainees won awards at the 11th annual celebration. Among our interns, Courtney Beard won 1st place for “Interpretation training in social anxiety” and Lara Ray won 2nd place for “Pharmacological effects of naltrexone and intravenous alcohol on cravings for cigarettes: A pilot study”. In the postdoc group, Jane Metrik won 1st place for “Marijuana drug and expectancy effects in subjective and behavioral measures” and Beth Jerskey won 2nd place for “Marriage and divorce: A genetic perspective”.
In terms of Rhode Island news, Buddy Cianci is out of prison, back in town, and on the radio. And, as if that isn’t exciting enough, The Wall Street Journal, recently selected Providence as one of their top 10 vacation destinations. So, really, how can you not come back for a visit this year?
Best wishes for a happy and healthy year!
