Division of Biology and Medicine

Brown University's Division of Biology and Medicine is led by the dean of medicine and biological sciences, and comprises the Program in Biology, the Medical School, and the Program in Public Health.

The Division houses five basic biology departments, offering undergraduate and graduate biology courses; 12 clinical departments; and two hybrid departments (both clinical and campus-based faculty). The Program in Public Health encompasses nine highly active research centers, the Department of Community Health, and a Master of Public Health degree program.

The Division of Biology and Medicine and Brown Medical School are the administrative home for faculty whose primary roles are in research, education or clinical care related to the domains of biology, medical science, and public health. All teaching responsibilities in the three domains fall to faculty in the Division. This organizational structure encourages multidisciplinary instruction and research, a hallmark of education at Brown.

The Division and its affiliated hospitals are now ranked 40th among medical schools in NIH dollars; as of June 30, 2003, total external funding was $130 million.

The Program in Biology comprises the following departments:

The Medical School's clinical departments are:
