Continuing Medical Education
The Continuing Medical Education Program at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University sponsors a wide variety of post graduate continuing medical education programs for AMA PRA Category 1 credit.
Definition of CME
Continuing medical education consists of educational activities which serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession. The content of CME is that body of knowledge and skills generally recognized and accepted by the profession as within the basic medical sciences, the discipline of clinical medicine, and the provision of health care to the public. Mission
The mission of the Warren Alpert Medical School CME Program is "to educate physicians in the scientific, ethical, and humanistic dimensions of medicine and to advance our ability to diagnose, treat, and prevent human illness." In pursuit of this mission, we strive to "offer a continuum of premedical and medical studies encompassing the sciences and the humanities."
Recognizing that practicing physicians are committed to the lifelong pursuit of learning, the mission of the Continuing Medical Education Office is to build upon that educational continuum by sponsoring quality continuing professional educational activities for practicing physicians.
Purpose
The purpose of the CME program is to assist Alpert Medical School faculty, community health organizations, local and regional specialty societies, and other agencies interested in planning formal continuing medical education activities for physicians. The CME Office will provide leadership in the design and evaluation of educational programs and will provide faculty with the guidance and expertise necessary to comply with the guidelines and standards for CME established by national accrediting organizations.
