Accreditation
The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing education activities to physicians.
Thank you for your interest in Continuing Medical Education at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. As soon as you have an idea for a CME activity, call the Brown CME office. This will enable us to work together from the very beginning of the planning process.
A CME program accredited by Brown means that the Brown CME Office is taking responsibility for the educational integrity of the program. Brown's responsibility is to assist course directors adhere to the policies and procedures set forth by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). Similar to the JCAHO or the RRC.
- Review your application for CME credit
- Participate in the educational planning and program development in order to ensure compliance with the ACCME policies and essentials
- Approve all brochures and announcements before printing/distribution
- Distribute industry disclosure forms to all confirmed presenters
- Prepare faculty disclosure summary
- Advise on commercial support standards and guidelines – ACCME SCS
- Distribute and maintain letters of agreement to all commercial funding sources. Regardless of where the money is actually sent — and it does not have to be sent to Brown – the agreement must be between the commercial supporter and Brown. This can be an area of confusion and misunderstanding, so it helps to start this discussion early. There are a lot of do’s and don’ts regarding relationships with pharmaceutical companies.
- Attend the program, if possible
- Prepare CME Certificates of Attendance
- Retain original sign-in sheets and evaluation summary for the file
- Receive a complete accounting of income and expenses
