Give the examiner a list of at least 3 specific inpatient cases you have encountered in the course of your pediatric clerkship. You will be asked to present at least one of the cases to the examiner. Your case presentation of an inpatient should be similar to one you would make on work rounds for a new patient. It should include: Chief Complaint, HPI, PMHx, FHx, Social Hx, physical examination, labs and other studies, assessment and plans. You have between 5 and 7 minutes to present the case uninterrupted. After you complete the case presentation or after 7 minutes, the examiner will ask you questions about the case, the rationale for some of the clinical decisions made, and about any of the specific pediatric issues illustrated by the case.

YOU HAVE 15 MINUTES
The observer will give you 3 minutes of direct feedback upon completion of the examination.

Faculty:

The student will give you a card or a piece of paper with a list of up to 3 inpatient cases they have encountered in the course of the pediatric clerkship. You should choose a case and have the student present it to you in the manner of an initial presentation on work rounds for a new inpatient. Please allow the student to present the case-from Chief complaint to Assessment and Plan-uninterrupted. The student should be allotted 5-7 minutes for the case presentation. After that amount of time or upon completion of the presentation, you may ask the student for any necessary clarification, the rationale for carrying out certain diagnostic procedures, and probe their knowledge about the specific pediatric issues illustrated by each case.

Please assign two grades, one for their case presentation skill and one for their ability to explain the clinical decisions made.
