The following is not meant to replace a comprehensive formal curriculum. Such are
available from the clerkship director. Instead the following is a list of problems
and procedures with which the student completing a pediatric clerkship should become
familiar. Those in bold should be considered essential, i.e. all students completing
a pediatric clerkship should have knowledge and/or expertise with these topics and
procedures. Those not in bold are considered important but may not be mastered by all
students completing the clerkship.

Procedures
Take a history from a parent of a pediatric inpatient
Obtain a problem focused history from a parent of a pediatric outpatient

Perform a physical examination of an infant, a toddler, a school-aged child and an adolescent
Demonstrate effective communication skills with colleagues, children, adolescents and families
