Foreign Studies Fellowship Program
The Foreign Studies Fellowship was established to promote a sensitivity to international health issues, an interest in pursuing scholarly research in international health, and a desire to engage in activities that will benefit developing nations. Brown medical students both at the graduate and undergraduate level and MPH students focused on international health are encouraged to write proposals for funding from this program.
The Foreign Studies Fellowship Program is intended to assist students enrolled in the Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME) program, medical school and MPH program to organize and plan international health experiences. Each year, the Foreign Studies Fellowship Program awards a small number of competitive travel grants to students with particularly meritorious foreign study plans.
The Program was established to promote, throughout students' entire educational continuum, sensitivity to international health and a desire to engage in activities that will benefit developing nations. The Foreign Studies Fellowship Program is one of an array of activities and programs based out of its sponsoring organization, International Health Institute.
All medical students are welcome to apply to the Foreign Studies Fellowship Program. Students enter the Alpert Medical School through a variety of admissions pathways, including post-baccalaureate, advanced transfer, Brown-Dartmouth, early identification, MD/Ph.D., and the PLME. Because of the PLME's open curriculum, PLME students can engage in foreign study earlier in their education than others, but opportunities are available for all students and are appropriate for any stage of their medical education. MPH students with an interest in international health are also eligible and are welcome to apply to support travel related to their research interests .
