Vincent Mor, PhD, Appointed Executive Director of the National Commission for Quality Long-term Care

The commission is a non-partisan, blue-ribbon panel convened and administered by the National Quality Forum, a health improvement partnership based in Washington, D.C. In his new role, Mor will help the commission accomplish its central mission: Develop a national strategy to improve care of the elderly and sick provided by nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home health agencies and other long-term care providers.

The commission is co-chaired by former U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and counts among its 15 members Mark Warner, governor of Virginia, Dirk Kempthorne, governor of Idaho, and William Novelli, chief executive officer of AARP. The commission expects to release its first policy report in December.

Mor will continue his outstanding work at Brown while leading the commission. Mor joined the Medical School faculty in 1981 and has served as chair of the Department of Community Health since 1996. In that time he has earned a reputation as a leading voice on health care quality, particularly in nursing homes. He has been principal investigator on more than 20 National Institute of Health grants and published over 250 peer-reviewed articles. He is a fellow of the American Gerontological Society and sits on the editorial board of Health Services Research .
