  • Rites & Reason
  • Rites and Reason is the oldest continuously operating African-American theater group in New England. Exploring issues of race, ethnicity, and other cultural issues within their performances, Rites and Reasons provides an emotional and artistic outlet for the Brown University community.
  • Student National Medical Association
  • The Daniel Hale Williams Society is the local chapter of the Student National Medical Association, a professional organization supporting the interests of underrepresented minority medical students. The Brown chapter of SNMA is an active and visible entity in the medical school. Some of SNMA's recent activites include coordinating a community health fair, hosting a fashion show "What not to Wear - Appropriate Attire for life on the Wards", lectures by visiting doctors as well as medical students, and assisting OMMA with the annual End of Year Celebration honoring minority graduates. SNMA is also working on promoting a stem-cell donation drive.

  • The Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America (CSREA)
  • Established in 1988, the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America (CSREA) facilitates research and discussion concerning "the concept of race as a historical and sociological reality in America, and the implications of race and ethnicity as historical, social, and analytical categories for multidisciplinary studies and multiple modes of discourse." CSREA develops resources for the Brown teaching community and provides opportunities via forums, symposia, and other mediums for "university-wide discussion of issues relating to race and ethnicity."   • The Leadership Alliance
  • The Leadership Alliance is a consortium of 31 of this nation's leading research and teaching academic institutions dedicated to improving the participation of underserved and underrepresented students in graduate studies and Ph.D. programs and, ultimately, research professions in the academic, public and private sectors. Joining Brown University, some of the participating schools in the alliance include Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, Morehouse College, Princeton University, and Stanford University. The Leadership Alliance facilitates a summer research early identification program, offers workshops and fellowships, and hosts an annual national symposium.

  • The Third World Center has a long history at Brown University, and remains a dynamic resource for underrepresented minority students and the rest of the community. The center's website provides details about upcoming events and the center's mission and philosophy.
