Dr. Simmons brings extensive experience in medical education, research and practice to the Office of Minority Medical Affairs. She received a degree in chemistry from Tougaloo College and went on to earn an MD from Alpert Medical School. As Assistant Dean, Dr. Simmons provides academic, professional, and personal mentoring and advising to EIP students and medical students. She is actively involved in recruitment and retention of underrepresented minority students at Alpert Medical School.
She is also an active member of the Alpert Medical School community, she sits on the boards of Brown Medical Alumni Association and the Office of Women in Medicine. She is a member of the Brown-Tougaloo Advisory Committee, and the Center for AIDS Research Minority Working Group among others.

Dean Domenech divides her time between OMMA and the Brown University Admissions Office. Dean Domenech serves as academic and personal advisor to students in the Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME) and medical students. She meets with students to discuss and assess their academic progress, and personal concerns, remaining in close contact throughout the year.
Dean Domenech is also in charge of the pre-selection to the PLME Program. As part of this job, she is responsible for examining over 2,200 files each year, choosing finalists for the reviewers, and distributing those files to the PLME Selection Committee for final review, culminating in the selection of the PLME freshman class. Dean Domenech is also a member of the PLME Selection Committee. She also travels often to visit schools across the country to recruit students for Brown University and the PLME program, host Focus receptions and attends alumni events all over the United States.

As a Learning Specialist, Phil Tetreault provides one-on-one academic support and counseling sessions for medical students and undergraduate PLME students. He assists medical students and PLME students by improving their study skills, learning strategies, time management, organization, and/or test-taking skills, and coaches students in meditation and relaxation techniques. Phil also helps students determine the source of their academic difficulties, whether these arise from personal, emotional, or external sources.
In addition, Phil hosts Study Groups and workshops for medical students preparing to take their Step 1 and Step 2 licensing examination (USMLE), provides individual and group tutoring sessions for board prep, and provides referrals for educational or psychological testing.

  • Directs the overall operations of OMMA.
  • Manages and implements diversity programs and initiatives within the medical education program.
  • Central liaison between OMMA and students, faculty, and other constituents with whom the office interacts.
  • Provides planning, administrative, organizational, and programming support to Assistant Dean and Associate Dean.
  • Manages and coordinates recruitment activities.
  • Manages and optimizes outreach and mentoring activities for students.
  • Coordinates and facilitates OMMA events for medical students, including, workshops, networking opportunities, and receptions.
  • Provides planning support for the Daniel Hale Williams Medical Society.
  • Disseminates information regarding fellowships and scholarships.
