Training in Infectious Disease and Host Response

Multidisciplinary training in the Pathobiology of Infectious Disease and host responses is offered as a sub-track in the Pathobiology Graduate Program and is supported by a Training Grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program. Nancy Thompson is the Training Grant director and Christine Biron is the Co-director. A wide range of thesis projects is available in the laboratories of faculty trainers. Topics include cellular and molecular immunology, infection initiation and microbial pathogenesis, defense mechanisms in infection, and more. Students are encouraged to present their work at local and national meetings. All trainees make research presentations in conjunction with the annual Pathobiology Program Retreat, a day-long event that features an invited keynote speaker from the Training Grant's external advisory panel.
