GLOSSARY
Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (or CDH) is a relatively rare condition of the fetus and the newborn. It describes the presence of abdominal content (usually intestines) inside the chest, through a hole in the diaphragm. As a result, the lung on that side cannot grow normally, and infants born with CDH often have severe respiratory problems at birth. In severe situations, the lungs may not be able to function at all, making the condition life-threatening.
