Foundations
in Fetal Medicine
COURSE OVERVIEW
This one-day conference presents a series
of lectures on important topics in fetal medicine. It is intended
for residents, fellows and attending physicians in obstetrics
and gynecology, perinatology and maternal-fetal medicine, neonatology
and pediatrics, pediatric surgical specialties, genetics, and
for medical students, genetic counselors, midwives, obstetrical
nurses and clinical social workers. The purpose of the course
is to integrate the various disciplines that represent fetal
medicine today and to highlight the degree of expertise and cooperation
in the Brown Medical School Program in Fetal Medicine.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the course, participants
should be able to:
1. Understand the current methods of screening for trisomy and
their limitations.
2. Understand the current management of gestational diabetes.
3. Describe the management of the fetus with anemia.
4. Describe the work-up and treatment of the fetus with a urinary
tract anomaly.
5. Describe the role of prenatal counseling in the management
of abdominal wall defects.
6. Understand the treatment principles of fetal cardiac anomalies.
7. Describe the role of fetal intervention in twin-twin transfusion
syndrome and spina bifida.
