This list describes opportunities, outside of Brown, for leadership training and professional development in various medical specialties and interest areas.
American Medical Student Association Women's Empowerment Institute
Gives female premedical and medical students, especially those coming from marginalized communities, the means to advocate for themselves and for their communities via skills training in public speaking, conflict resolution, negotiation, written communication, community organizing, mentoring and lobbying.
Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine (ATPM) / Paul Ambrose Health Promotion Student Leadership Symposium
Population-based health care, community organizing, project planning and assessment, media relations, cultural competency, social and behavioral determinants of health, and health care financing and delivery.
Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) Leadership Training Program
Learn about a number of cam topics from acupuncture to research to mind-body medicine to the latest in regulation and licensing standards for cam. Stress reduction, wellness, and nutrition will be emphasized, and students will enjoy healthy meals, meditation, yoga, movement, public speaking sessions and other activities.
Primary Care Leadership Training Program
Primary care, development of leadership skills for future primary care physicians, and engagement of students in curricular reform and health policy issues.
St. Jude Children\'s Research Hospital/Pediatric Oncology Education Program Basic oncology and/or clinical research, hospital conferences, and a core lecture series.
