Applications

Preliminary Application Requirements

Brown University will be accepting applications for both categorical and preliminary residency positions through ERAS. We offer five categorical and six preliminary positions. The deadline for receipt of completed application files is Monday, November 1, 2004 (with the exception of the Dean's letter).

A complete application package will have the ERAS application form, personal statement, USMLE score report, dean's letter, transcripts, and three letters of recommendation. One of the letters of recommendation is expected from your chairman of the Department of Surgery. If unable to secure such a letter, please note the reason why in your application.

Completed files will be reviewed by the program director beginning on November 1st. Incomplete files will not be reviewed. Invitations for interviews will go out simultaneously by e-mail mid-November to all those selected. Four interview dates will be offered throughout December and January and these will be filled on a "first come, first served" basis as e-mail responses to the invitations are received.

Each interview day will have an optional social get-together with the residents the evening prior. The interview day will begin at 8:00 am with an orientation to the program by the program director, followed by three 1/2-hour interviews with individual faculty members. During this time, several residents at each PGY-level will be available for your questions. Lunch with the residents will follow the scheduled interviews and the day will conclude with a tour of the clinical and laboratory facilities and an exit session with the program director for any final questions.

Should you have further questions, please feel free to e-mail Susie Smeaton at prichardson@lifespan.org. We look forward to a successful interview season.

Good luck to all!
