Welcome

While based in the Division of Surgical Research, the Trauma and Inflammation Research Training Fellowship is an interdepartmental program directed at mentoring the development of the clinician-scientist dedicated to advancing the understanding of the pathophysiology of trauma-related disease.

The need for individuals who can bridge the gap from bench-to-bedside remains great since, despite the best efforts of contemporary medicine, trauma-related disease still presents a substantial challenge to basic scientists and clinicians dedicated to its treatment. To meet this need we have put together a unique fellowship, which not only draws from the rich expertise of research faculty looking at problems in trauma, shock and inflammation, but also intermingles the clinician's experience in the intensive care unit.

In the following pages an overview of our program, its goals, faculty, and facilities are provided for consideration. We therefore invite you to consider applying to this unique and challenging program.

Sincerely,
Jorge E. Albina, M.D., program director
Alfred Ayala, Ph.D., program co-director
