Dedicated to the advancement of women students, residents, faculty
and physicians in the Brown medical community, The Office of Women in Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University serves
to network women in medicine at all levels and offers educational
programs to meet the needs of its many constituencies.
Students, residents, faculty, and alumni are welcome to contact the Office
of Women in Medicine (OWM) regarding their interests, issues and
programming ideas related to women in medicine. We invite your suggestions
and participation in future events.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Office of Women in Medicine is to foster the academic progress of its women medical faculty,
houseofficers and students through education, advocacy, mentoring
and networking. The Office provides opportunities for women to acquire
the skills and strategies necessary for their professional advancement.
The OWM aims for women to be successful in attaining senior faculty
ranks and leadership positions. The OWM monitors the status of women
in medicine at Brown in order to ensure equality of participation
and reward, and to identify and address barriers to advancement.
It communicates widely the successes of women and stimulates collaboration
with external partners. The Office promotes
excellence in clinical care, education and research in women’s
health. It recognizes the importance of diversity, humanism, varied
career paths, personal wellness and a healthy, balanced life.
