Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedures and Resource Guide
The Medical School's policies and procedures regarding sexual harassment
are part of those for the College. Brown has an established Sexual
Harassment Complaint Procedure, with persons designated to hear
informal students' complaints, to counsel and advise the students
concerned, and to assist with formal grievance resolution. For the
University's complete document, see the Brown
University Policies & Procedures Regarding Sexual Harassment,
Sexual Misconduct & Sexual Assault Office (Box 1890, 863-2389)
or Preventing
and Responding to Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault: A Resource
Guide for Medical Students on preventing and responding to sexual
harassment or sexual assault.
Medical students who are
aware of or who have experienced an incident of sexual harassment
or sexual assault, should promptly report the matter, either through
informal or formal routes. The informal mechanism allows the student
to receive personal guidance and support.
Dr. Gerard Gagne, Jr. and Dr. Laura Levine are consultants to the Office of Women
in Medicine on issues of sexual harassment and gender equality.
Medical students with any level of concern or need for clarification
pertaining to these areas are encouraged to contact Drs. Levine and Gagne to discuss their options. Included in that discussion
will be a description of the reporting mechanisms.
